The 2L Cosworth Normally Aspirated ‘YB’ engine was built by John Wilcox Competition Engines. The engine has been developed since 1986 in turbo form for rallying and racing. The first normally aspirated version was built in 1987. The prototype led to backing from Ford Motor Company, allowing the development of a version for the BTCC (British Touring Car Championship). Engines were built for BTCC, Portuguese, and French touring car championships. This specific Escort is fitted with the 280 BHP kit, including the following components:
